Small
Carved Rectangular Red Sandstone Screen,
Depicting Two Bordered Large Rosettes
India,
Mughal, 17th century
Mottled red sandstone
Gift of Arthur Ross
This exterior architectural screen fragment is sharply carved
with two large double concentric rosettes each in a quatrefoil.
Half rosettes from the adjacent quatrefoils border the central
forms. These interlocking motifs are found in carpets as well
as in inlaid stone mosaics employed for interiors in the Mughal
period.
