Scheduled to run from January 31, 1998 to April 5, 1998, this exhibition is curated within the context of the University of Pennsylvania's current "Celebration of Asian Art" and encompasses 120 contemporary prints from Japan and Korea. The first part includes works by established Japanese and Korean artists. The Japanese printmakers, with the aid of a grant from the Japanese Cultural Bureau, have spent one year at Penn's Print Studio as Artists in Residence. The Korean artists have all worked at the Seoul Print Workshop, directed by Yong-Jin Hwang, Professor of Printmaking at Seoul National Politechnic University. Professor Hwang is an Artist in Residence at Penn's Print Studio this year. The second part of the exhibition consists of 107 prints from 20 universities in Japan and Korea. The Japanese entries have been selected from the annual exhibition of the Association of Universities of Art for Print Study, held at the Machida International Print Museum, by Seishi Osaku, the Director, who is a Professor of Printmaking at Tama Art University in Tokyo.
