Into Country: Nineteenth Century French Paintings from the Charlotte
Dorrance Wright Bequest and Other Philadelphia Museum of Art Collections

The forty-one
paintings by artists from Corot to Monet, Van Gogh to Utrillo, representing
the Barbizon School, Impressionism, and early Modernism are loaned from
the permanent collections of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Research
by graduate students working with guest curator Christopher Riopelle
of the Philadelphia Museum of Art are presented in materials accompanying
the exhibition. An international symposium, "City Into Country: Making
French Landscapes," will be co-hosted by Penn's French Institute for
Culture and Technology, March 3-5, 1996.
