Athletic Facilities

The athletic facilities are open to the entire Penn community and offer a wide range of programs and activities. The intramural program at Penn gives students a chance to participate in nineteen different activities, including baseball, football, basketball, squash, and hockey. Most of the activities are coed. The Recreation Department offers classes in aerobics, swimming, fencing, gymnastics, self-defense, yoga, scuba, modern dance, jazz dance, ballroom dance, squash and tennis.

 The Sports Club Council and the Department of Recreation and Athletics recognize sports clubs in most sports. Clubs have included aikido, badminton (women's), basketball, bowling, cricket, Frisbee (men's and women's), golf, gymnastics (men), ice hockey (men's and women's), karate, racquetball, rifle and pistol, rugby (men's and women's), soccer (women's), synchronized swimming, table tennis, volleyball (men's), and water polo.

 The indoor facilities include twenty-two squash courts, eight tennis courts, steam rooms, men's saunas/women's saunas, universal and free weights and the Olympic-sized, fifty-meter Sheerr pool. The Class of '23 Indoor Ice Rink is available for skating. Franklin Field, the site of the famous Penn Relays, offers an Astroturf and all-weather track.

 The Penn Fitness Center, located in Hutchinson Gym, is a membership fitness center. It offers the Penn community the ability to create and put into action a personal fitness program. The center includes two Nautilus circuits, eight Stairmasters, four Concept II rowing ergs, four Lifecycles, two Fitron Cycles, three Versaclimbers and two NordicTrac ski machines.
