Dr.
David Pope, professor
of materials science and engineering in SEAS, has agreed
to serve as the University Ombudsman,
effective July 1, 2003
for a two-year term, President Judith Rodin announced
recently. Dr. Pope will succeed
Dr. Anita Summers, who
served a two-year term. "Anita
has done an extraordinary job and we are very grateful," Dr.
Rodin added.
"Dave's
broad knowledge of the University, excellent judgment,
and wisdom, as well as his history of engagement as
a University citizen, equip him to provide great service
to the Penn community," said Dr. Rodin.
Dr.
Pope has served on numerous University initiatives,
including co-chairing the Academic Integrity Task Force
in 2001, co-chairing the joint University Council/Provost
Committee on Assessing the Evaluation of Teaching during
2001-02, and served as chair of the Committee on Residential
Planning in 1997, the committee that selected the first
group of House Deans for the then newly-created Penn
College House system. He also received the S. Reid
Warren teaching award from the SEAS undergraduates
in 2000.
