Almanac Between Issues January 6, 2004

 

Deaths: Orneice Dorsey Leslie, SSW '71, the former assistant dean and director of admissions at the School of Social Work, died December 31 at the age of 68. She worked at Penn for over 25 years. Her funeral will be held at Monumental Baptist Church, 4948 Locust Street, on Thursday, January 8. The viewing will be 9-11 a.m. and the service will be at 11 a.m. The School of Social Work is planning a campus memorial. An obituary will appear in the upcoming issue.

Susan Peterson Pace, VPUL office coordinator, died of lung cancer on December 19 at the age of 48. She became a member of the 25 Year Club in 2000. A campus memorial is being planned. An obituary will appear in the upcoming issue.

Income Tax Increase: Pennsylvania Governor Edward Rendell has signed a budget bill for fiscal 2003-2004 that increases Pennsylvania personal income tax. For tax years beginning after 2003, the personal income tax rate is increased from 2.8% to 3.07%. Changes to the Payroll system will go into effect with the next pay cycle. Blood Drive: The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive on Tuesday, January 13, from 10 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. in the Dietrich Reading Room of the Van Pelt-Dietrich Library. Right now, there is a critical need for blood, so if you are eligible to donate, please do so! If you have any questions about eligibility check out the American Red Cross website, www.pleasegiveblood.org or sign up at the new online website, www.Penn.givesblood.org.

Almanac Schedule: The first issue of the semester will be published next Tuesday, January 13. The deadline for that issue is today. The deadline for the February A T PENN calendar is next Tuesday.
