Alex’s Lemonade Stand at The Sheraton: June 9

The Sheraton University City Hotel will join the Philadelphia Hotel Association sponsorship of Alex’s Lemonade Stand and rock the corner of 36th & Chestnuts Streets on Friday, June 9 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. All the proceeds of the event will be donated to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia as part of the citywide hotel contribution.

June 9-11 has been designated as the National 2006 Lemonade Days. Volunteers across America will be raising money for pediatric cancer research by hosting lemonade stands. The theme of this year’s event is “United Stands of America”.

The morning kicks off with Swoop from the Eagles followed by some beautiful 76’ers dancers. Other featured guests include the famous Polish American String Band, the talented United States Postal Choir, University City High School Jazz Band and Dance Team, The Unstoppables Dance Team and lively karaoke all day long. From 2:30 to 3:45 p.m., Sesame Place’s Bert & Ernie will make an appearance.

Barbara Hansel, Experience Specialist and Coordinator of Community Service at the Sheraton University City Hotel says the last lemonade stand raised $5,680 by “giving away lemonade … One Cup at a Time”. The hotel is committed to community service programs that benefit children and participates in many projects throughout the year in University City. Ms. Hansel says it is exciting to see the enthusiasm and support of every employee at the Sheraton. “We have a generous staff and knowing that we support local cancer research at CHOP makes it easy to volunteer a few hours for such a great cause.”

On August 1, 2004, Alex died peacefully at the age of 8 after battling cancer for 7 years. Alex's spirited determination to raise awareness and money for all childhood cancer while she bravely fought her own deadly battle with cancer has inspired thousands of people, from all walks of life to raise money and give to her cause. Alex's family and supporters are committed to continuing her inspiring legacy through Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation.
