Penn's College of Arts and Sciences will have its celebrated alumnus, the Hon. Edward S. Rendell, Mayor of Philadelphia, as speaker for the School Commencement Sunday, May 17, 7-9 p.m. at Franklin Field, on the eve of the all-University Commencement where President Jimmy Carter will speak.
(At the May 18 University Commencement, all degrees are conferred but only the honorary degree candidates receive their diplomas. Penn has 18 more intimate commencement ceremonies where diplomas for the baccalaureate, master's and doctoral degrees in course are presented individually to the graduates. For information on the individual commencements and other events surrounding graduation, please see The 242nd Commencement.) (Posted 5/13/98)
