Temporarily Closed for Construction:
Vendor Plaza Near Gimbel Gym
The Vendor Plaza between Mod 6 / Parking Garage and Gimbel Gym closed
Saturday, June 24 and will reopen Wednesday, July 5 (barring any complications)
to allow for Huntsman Hall construction of ductbank systems that will connect
to the University network. Additional work, beyond the immediate vicinity
of the Vendors, will continue near Mod 6 / Parking Garage until the RNC,
but this will not prevent the Vendors from operating.
The Huntsman project team worked with Jack Shannon, managing director
of economic development in the Office of the Executive Vice President, and
the Vendors' representatives to develop a plan for this work that would
satisfy the University's contractual commitments to the Vendors. This meant
that the builder needed to compress construction activity that would ordinarily
take five to six weeks into a much shorter period, when the Vendors were
not present. The Vendors themselves chose the timing for the work-this week,
which they identified as one of their slowest periods of the year. "Since
we are attempting to do so much in such a short time, it is a possibility
that the work may extend into next week, especially if the weather is bad.
Separately, we are constructing a tele/datacommunications ductbank system
along Locust Walk to connect Huntsman to Steinberg Hall-Dietrich Hall; pedestrian
traffic will be maintained. The good news is that once this work is completed,
no significant construction for Huntsman Hall will occur outside of our
site fence for the duration of the project," said Thomas Ewing, Facilities
Services, TCC senior project manager.
