Penn's Provost Stanley Chodorow was one of the four, who were examined by the search committee Tuesday, November 5, in public interviews broadcast on the campus radio station. Also on the short list were Dr. Carol Christ, vice chancellor and provost of UC/Berkeley, and Dr. Larry Faulkner, provost and vice-chancellor of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign.
By state law, the Michigan search process goes public in its final stages, with the names of the 'short list' announced, and the final interviews conducted in public.
"While I was honored to be considered a finalist at Michigan," Dr. Chodorow said, "I've had mixed feelings from the outset about leaving Penn. I look forward to continuing the work that President Rodin and I have begun, particularly the goals and projects articulated in the Agenda for Excellence and the 21st Century Project. This is a terrific time in Penn's history and I'm very enthused about continuing our work here."
Added President Judith Rodin: "That Stan was one of the four finalists for the Michigan presidency was a tremendous compliment to him and to Penn. I am very pleased that we will still enjoy and benefit from his leadership and vision here. As we move forward with our Agenda for Excellence, there is much important work to be done, and I will be grateful to have Stan's continued partnership as we prepare Penn for the 21st Century."
