LEAVING

Patricia Renfro to Columbia

Library Associate Director for Public Services Patricia Renfro will be leaving Penn in April to become Deputy University Librarian of Columbia University. Ms. Renfro overseers Van Pelt Reference, Access Services and Document Delivery, and the Libraries of the Annenberg School, Fine Arts, Engineering and Applied Science, Music, Chemistry, Math/Physics and Astronomy, and the University Museum. Her responsibilities also include management of the Penn Library Web.

During her 17 years at Penn, Ms. Renfro has served on a variety of University-wide committees, and is presently a member of the IT Advisory Board. In announcing her departure, Penn Vice Provost and Director of Libraries, Paul Mosher, expressed "a mixture of regret and pleasure, since Penn's loss is also a well-earned career opportunity for a beloved and valued colleague." Patricia Renfro has been instrumental in the creation and development of Penn's Digital Library and the formation of outreach programs, such as the Library Advisors component of the 21st Century College Houses Program. Dr. Mosher praised her for assembling a first-class staff, and contributing immeasurably to "Penn's understanding of what a fine academic library should be." Jane Bryan, head of Van Pelt Reference, will serve as Acting Director for Public Services until Ms. Renfro's position is filled. Music Librarian, Marjorie Hassen, will step into Ms. Bryan's position for the interim period.
