Dean of Freshmen: Lorraine Sterritt

The College of Arts and Sciences has appointed Dr. Lorraine Sterritt as its first dean of freshmen. She has been Harvard's associate dean of freshmen for academic affairs since 1998. Dr. Sterritt will assume the new position at Penn on July 1. She will be responsible for overseeing freshmen advising in the College, coordinating academic support services for freshmen and planning a newly expanded New Student Orientation in the College.

Her appointment is part of the new, more comprehensive advising program for freshmen which is being launched for the class entering the College this fall. She will report to College Dean Richard R. Beeman and Deputy Provost Peter Conn.

Dr. Sterritt has a Ph.D. in French literature from Princeton University and will teach in the Department of Romance Languages.
