Dr. Gaertner: Director of University Laboratory Animal Resources

Diane Gaertner

Dr. Diane Gaertner, has been appointed Director of University Laboratory Animal Resources, effective February 1, 2003, replacing Dr. Jeffrey Linn who retired December 31, 2002. Dr. Gaertner, currently Director of the Institute for Animal Studies at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, is a nationally recognized leader in the field of laboratory animal medicine and is the current President of the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine.

Dr. Gaertner will direct laboratory animal services and also plans to develop an expanded academic training program in this veterinary specialty, working with the faculties of the Schools of Veterinary Medicine, and Medicine. In support of this expanded mission, the offices of ULAR will be moved to a site at the School of Veterinary Medicine, and an additional vivarium will be included in the planned new building of the SVM. "We look forward to Dr. Gaertner's arrival and have high expectations for the performance of University Laboratory Animal Resources under her direction," said Dr. Neal Nathanson, Vice Provost for Research.
