Adhering to the Code of Workplace Conduct for Penn Apparel Licensees

Dear Penn Faculty and Staff:

We would like to remind you of an important issue that affects the entire Penn community.

From time to time, many Penn schools and centers order articles of clothing reflecting their name or the Penn name and brand. When placing these orders, please remember that all manufacturers that do business with Penn must adhere to the Code of Workplace Conduct for Penn apparel licensees. Penn is committed to this Code, which governs fair and humane conditions in manufacturing facilities. If our business partners do not adhere to the Code, we will be placed in the uncomfortable position of advancing a principle that we do not practice.

We know that many of you have long-standing relationships with particular vendors. If these vendors are not currently approved as being in compliance with the Code of Conduct, they can agree to participate in our licensing process. This process is administered by Penn's Center for Technology Transfer (CTT). To learn more about this process and how your partners can participate, please contact Jackie Miraglia at CTT at (215) 573-4502.

When you are seeking vendors, please refer to the list of Penn preferred vendors, provided by CTT. These vendors have all been approved and licensed and we are assured that they produce quality merchandise. You can be confident that one of these vendors can meet the needs of your department. You can obtain the complete list of licensed vendors of apparel and other products from Jackie Miraglia, or from Sharlene Sones, director of marketing for Penn Business Services. Sharlene can also provide information on opportunities at Penn for apparel vendors.

Again, it is extremely important that we do not compromise the integrity of the Penn name with products that have not been manufactured in compliance with the Code of Workplace Conduct and do not meet our standards. For more information on Penn's Code of Conduct, please visit www.upenn.edu/sweatshop/.
