Speaking Out

Vexing Vending Machines

I am writing to lodge a complaint concerning the vending machines in the John Morgan Building and the Biomedical Research Building. I have occasionally had the experience of trying to purchase a soda and losing my money in the machines. The money return button does not work and the machines often do not give change. From the comments of others, my experiences are very common.

In the past, vending machine used to have an on-campus number posted for complaints and refunds. This is no longer the case. I would appreciate it if you would ask an appropriate campus official [to] address this issue in Almanac.

--George L. Gerton, Research Professor, Ob-Gyn,
Center for Research on Reproduction and Women's Health, Medical Center

Response and Recourse

I'd like to extend my apologies to Professor Gerton and others for any problems encountered with campus vending machines. We will re-label the machines with contact information and have the machines repaired. Meanwhile, anyone with problems with campus vending machines should call the Vending Customer Service line at 800-444-1794. You are also welcome to contact me directly with any concerns--or suggestions, at (215) 573-2332 or cousart@pobox.upenn.edu.

--Laurie Cousart, Contract & Relationship Manager, Penn Dining Services
