Virtual Penn Commencement

Live on the Web May 17

computerFamily members and friends who are unable to attend Penn's 248th Commencement may view the ceremony live over the Internet. Webcast coverage of the proceedings from Franklin Field will begin at 9 a.m. EST on Monday, May 17. The links to the webcast will become activated by approximately 8:45 a.m. We recommend that you establish your connection early.

To view the live Internet webcast, your computer must have RealPlayer (version 8 or higher). RealPlayer is available free to Penn students, faculty and staff via the PennConnect CD or the supported products page, or to all others direct from www.real.com.

To test your RealPlayer configuration prior to the May 17 webcast, try watching streaming video of last year's Commencement ceremony. Visit www.upenn.edu/commencement/webcast.html to watch the Commencement 2003 ceremony.

The Commencement webcast will be encoded in "surestream" to support a variety of Internet connection speeds. Those viewers connecting at rates up to 256 Kbps will enjoy a more favorable video experience.

If you miss the live webcast, or are unable to connect, the broadcast will be available for archived viewing on demand at this website beginning Wednesday, May 19.

On-Campus Penn Video Network Broadcast

tvThe Commencement Ceremony will also be broadcast live across campus on the Penn Video Network (PVN) special events channel (ch. 24), beginning 9 a.m. Monday, May 17. PVN cable television services are available in all University College Houses and residence halls, in GreekNet-wired fraternity and sorority houses, and in more than 50 administrative and academic buildings around campus. To find a PVN viewing site close to you, contact your building administrator; or, visit www.upenn.edu/video/locations.html.
