Fairy Tale Rail: From Cottages to Castles

See the Woodcutter’s Cottage from Snow White and the Seven Dwarves at the Morris Arboretum in this year’s summer garden railway exhibit, Fairy Tale Rail: From Cottages to Castles. Other scale-model buildings included in this exhibit are replicas of the Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe, Hedgehog’s House from Beatrix Potter’s Tales of Peter Rabbit, and Grandmother’s Cottage from Little Red Riding Hood, all constructed using natural materials. Acorns, moss, bark and twigs form the exterior décor of this magical display, which is set on about 1/8 of an acre.

Karl Bodmer's Pehriska-Ruhpa, Moennitarri Warrior, in the Costume of the Dog Danse is based on drawings made during his stay in Fort Clark (North Dakota), November 1833-April 1834. The leggings in the image closely resemble a pair of Mandan leggings, also from North Dakota (ca. 1830), in Penn Museum's collections. Morris Arboretum Exhibits
