Faculty Information System
In June 2006, Penn will rollout the first release of a Faculty Information System (FIS). In September 2005, The Office of the Provost began working with Information Systems and Computing to design a system that would automate the collection of existing faculty information and facilitate the Provost’s Staff Conference (PSC) process. The new system is an important step in automating processes that are handled largely with paper and emails today. This first software release will be the culmination of work that involved gathering input from representatives of all twelve schools, the Provost’s Office, and Institutional Research.
In September, a second release will broaden access from the Provost’s Office staff to authorized representatives in each of the schools, so that schools can submit PSC actions electronically. This step also creates the foundation for enhanced analytical capabilities through the coordination of data across the University. A third release will be undertaken in Fiscal Year 2007 to expand further the functionality of FIS.
