Penn-made Presidents

Dr. Susan Fuhrman is the latest in a long line of people who have left Penn to become a college or university president. Some who recently preceded her include: former provost Robert L. Barchi,  president of Thomas Jefferson University in 2004; former director of SAS Development and coordinator of the College House Programs Peyton ‘Randy’ Helm, president of Muhlenberg College in 2003; former Law School dean Colin Diver, president of Reed College in Portland, Oregon in 2002; former EVP John Fry, president of Franklin and Marshall College in 2002; former vice president and chief of staff Stephen D. Schutt, president of Lake Forest College in 2001. In the last few decades, there have been over three-dozen faculty, deans, provosts and administrators who have spent their formative years here before becoming president of another institution. For a list, see www.upenn.edu/almanac/v47/n22/presidents.html.
