HR: Health Aware
March 4, 2008, Volume 54, No. 24

Health Aware is an ongoing series designed to help you be proactive in managing your health and healthcare by taking advantage of the many resources available to you as a Penn employee.

Manage your Health and Enter the Free Medical Coverage Drawing

Right now, all faculty and staff members who receive medical coverage through the University have the opportunity to learn about their health—and to enter a drawing for a year of free medical premiums—by filling out an online health risk assessment. This simple survey asks for information about your health habits and family history, and provides you with a personalized report summarizing your current state of health, as well as advice on how to mitigate future health risks.

Complete your health risk assessment before April 30 and you will automatically be entered into a drawing to win one year of free medical coverage! Three entrants will be selected at random to have their medical insurance premiums paid by Penn for one full year (copays, deductibles and other out-of-pocket expenses are not included).

To learn how to access your health risk assessment and enter the free medical coverage drawing, please visit the Human Resources website at www.hr.upenn.edu.

Smoking Cessation Workshops

There’s no mystery that many smokers want to quit, but find it very hard to do—much harder than they expect.  That’s why Human Resources is offering a special three-part series of free Smoking Cessation workshops this spring. Led by Dr. Frank Leone, Director of the Comprehensive Smoking Treatment Program at the School of Medicine, these workshops provide new ways to think about the addiction of smoking, how to quit successfully and stay smoke-free once you successfully give up the habit, and/or how to support loved ones on this difficult but worthwhile journey.

To register for a Smoking Cessation workshop, visit www.hr.upenn.edu and click on “Course Catalog” at the top of the screen, then select “Health Promotions” from the “Browse by Category” menu. If you have questions about the workshops, please contact Human Resources at (215) 898-5116 or suzsmith@exchange.upenn.edu.
