Benefits to Support You and Your Family
PDF
October 20, 2009, Volume 56, No. 08

This is the third in a series of articles this October that honors National Work and Family Month—a campaign to raise awareness of the importance of worklife benefits.

Raising a family can be a rewarding experience, but it can also present many challenges. From managing your finances to balancing your time between work and home, we understand that life can sometimes be stressful; that’s why we provide faculty and staff with a wide variety of resources to support you and your family.

Because the expense of raising a family can be daunting, Penn offers several benefits to help ease the financial impact. If you’re adopting a child, you can be reimbursed for up to $5,000 in eligible expenses through the University’s adoption assistance benefit.  Penn’s comprehensive health benefit plans can help protect you and your family from the high cost of health care. You may also want to consider enrolling in the Health Care and/or Dependent Care Pre-Tax Expense Accounts in order to save tax dollars on some of your family’s health and dependent care expenses.

Being a caregiver takes a tremendous amount of time and effort, so we provide many resources to help you meet the needs of your family in addition to the demands of your job. You’re entitled to time off for maternity and paternity leave as well as adoption and foster care. You have access to a number of child care programs and resources, from summer programs for kids to the Penn Children’s Center to snow day child care.

Every family is different and has its own unique set of needs. To that end, Penn offers a broad array of resources to help meet the diverse needs of your household. Our Worklife Resources service can support you in many facets of your everyday life, from parenting concerns and child care arrangements to education support to caregiver challenges.

For information on all of these resources and more, visit www.hr.upenn.edu/Quality/Worklife/Default.aspx or contact the Division of Human Resources at (215) 573-2471 or kenne@upenn.edu.
