Get Fit This Fall with a 5K Walk
October 20, 2009, Volume 56, No. 08

Take charge of your health (and work off that Halloween candy) by participating in a 5K (3.1 mile) walk.

Join us on Friday, November 6 in front of the Ben Franklin statue on College Green at noon. All faculty and staff are welcome to participate. If you’re a member of the Penn Walking Program, you’re encouraged to wear your “I’m a Penn Walker” t-shirt and bring your pedometer. We’ll also have sign-up information, t-shirts, welcome packets, pedometers, and clip-on strobe lights for new members. If you’re interested in joining the Penn Walking Program, plan on arriving between 11:30 a.m. and noon to allow time for sign-ups and packet distribution.

The course will run from Locust Walk to 40th Street, through the paths of Woodlands Cemetery, and back to the starting point. Suzanne Smith, health promotion specialist in Penn’s Division of Human Resources, will lead the group walk at a moderate pace (about 45 minutes). Walkers of all levels are encouraged to participate. Volunteer walkers will be placed throughout the group to ensure no one is left behind.

For more information or to register, visit the Human Resources online course catalog at www.hr.upenn.edu/coursecatalog (select “Health Promotions” from the “Browse By Category” menu) or contact Human Resources at (215) 898-5116 or suzsmith@upenn.edu.
