AARC

On Friday, November 20, the African-American Resource Center (AARC) will be celebrating 20 years of service to the University of Pennsylvania and the community at large. The celebration will take place in the Multipurpose Room of W.E.B. Du Bois College House from 5-7:30 p.m., and is open to the public. RSVP is recommended.

The event will include music by Reference Point, refreshments along with remarks by Winnie Smart Mapp, one of AARC’s original committee members; the Center’s first director, Allen Green and social worker Rorujorona Ferrell. They will be joined by Joann Mitchell, Vice President of Institutional Affairs and University Chaplain Chaz Howard, who will give the blessing.

AARC’s mission is to enhance the quality of life for faculty, staff and students at Penn, with a particular focus on those of African descent. The Center, which first opened its doors on July 1, 1989, contributes to making Penn a leader in higher education by constructively and proactively helping to create a teaching-learning community of real and harmonious diversity.

All members of the Penn community—administrators, faculty, staff and students—are welcome to use their free and confidential services as needed. Information about the history of the African-American Resource Center and the resources and services they provide is available at www.upenn.edu/aarc or by calling (215) 898-0104.
