The Year of Water for Provost’s Theme Year 2010-2011
PDF
November 17, 2009, Volume 56, No. 12

Provost Vincent Price and Vice Provost for Education Andrew Binns are pleased to announce the Year of Water as the academic theme year for 2010-2011. Part of the University’s ambitious and comprehensive Climate Action Plan, the Year of Water will bring together perspectives from engineering, arts & sciences, public health, and a wide range of other disciplines across campus.

Academic theme years are designed to provide common intellectual and academic experiences that integrate knowledge across Penn’s diverse schools, programs, centers, and institutes. They begin with the Penn Reading Project, in which all entering students read and discuss a common text, and continue throughout the year with a variety of programs, courses, events, initiatives, and symposia. Water will be the fourth academic theme year developed by the Office of the Provost, the Council of Undergraduate Deans, and the Office of College Houses and Academic Services, after years devoted to Food, Evolution, and currently Arts & the City.

We welcome ideas from the Penn community for Year of Water programs and future academic theme years. Please contact David Fox, director of Academic Initiatives, at dfox@upenn.edu with your suggestions.
