Important News for Employees Contributing to the Health Care Pre-Tax Expense Account
PDF
April 13, 2010, Volume 56, No. 29

As you make your 2010-2011 plan year elections, we want you to be aware of a change that will occur as of January 1, 2011 (the middle of the new plan year). As you know, healthcare reform was recently signed into law by President Obama. Under this legislation, over-the-counter medicines or drugs such as Claritin or ibuprofen will no longer be eligible for reimbursement under the Health Care Pre-Tax Expense Account as of January 1, 2011. This means that reimbursements will be limited to physician-prescribed drugs or insulin. Please keep this in mind as you decide on the amount you want to contribute to the Health Care Pre-Tax Expense Account for the next plan year. For more information, please contact the Penn Benefits Center at 1-888-PENN-BEN (1-888-736-6236) or visit the Human Resources website at www.hr.upenn.edu.
