MLK Interfaith Program and Awards Commemoration

The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Interfaith Program and Awards Commemoration will take place at 6 p.m. in Bodek Lounge, Houston Hall on Thursday, January 20. The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Involvement Awards will be presented with remarks from Vice President of Institutional Affairs Joann Mitchell. The guest speakers will be Bryan Miller, director, Heeding God’s Call; and Rev. Dr. Leslie D. Callahan, Pastor, St. Paul’s Baptist Church.

This event will include poetry and musical performances from the Penn community. Sponsored by the Awards Committee, the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Symposium Executive Planning Committee and the Office of the Chaplain, it is free and open to the public.

MLK Lecture in Social Justice

On Wednesday, January 26, the MLK Lecture in Social Justice will be held in the Harold Zellerbach Theatre, Annenberg Center at 5:30 p.m. This year’s program features Tim Wise, educator, lecturer, anti-racist activist and author of Between Barack and a Hard Place: Racism and White Denial in the Age of Obama. The event, sponsored by the Center for Africana Studies, the Annenberg School for Communication and the Office of the President, is free and open to the public.
