Today at 11 a.m., the Division of Public Safety and the City of Philadelphia’s Police Department will be co-sponsoring the launch of the “Share-the-Road” bicycle safety campaign. The event will be in front of the Penn Bookstore at 36th & Walnut Streets. There will be experts on hand to distribute literature, with many safety supporters on-hand to provide training for pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists, and answer questions prior to the press conference at noon.
The DPS educational campaign targets the University City bicycle and motorist community regarding basic safety practices and City and State laws to allow for a safe riding environment. The event will address the changes in the bike lanes along Walnut Street as well as deliver safety tips for those pedestrians and bicyclists using the South Street Bridge.
This event also includes members from the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia, PennCycle, Neighborhood Bike Works, Keswick Cycle, the UA, GAPSA and MERT who will be available on site to answer questions and provide information to the University City community.
Speakers include Chief Dorsey of the University of Pennsylvania Police Department, Sharon McMullen, Director, University of Pennsylvania Campus Health Initiatives, Lieutenant McBride of the Philadelphia Police Department, Captain Fred Carbonara of the Drexel Police Department and Lieutenant Messner of the University of Pennsylvania Police Department. |
