Dr. Phillip Scott has been promoted to Vice Dean for Research and Academic Resources at Penn Vet. This recognizes the expanded responsibilities that Dr. Scott has taken on since he was appointed Associate Dean in 2006. In addition to providing support and information for the School’s research mission and acting as a conduit for communication between the University’s Vice Provost for Research and Penn Vet, Dr. Scott has stepped into areas of faculty mentoring; research infrastructure including space, facilities and IT; and managing and advocating for resources to support the School’s academic mission. He has also initiated research strategic planning and most recently reviews of School research centers.
Dr. Scott earned his undergraduate degree from Villanova University and his PhD from the University of Pennsylvania. He worked at the National Institutes of Health Laboratory of Parasitology from 1981-1989. In 1989 Dr. Scott returned to Penn, accepting an assistant professor position in pathobiology at Penn Vet, advancing to full professor in 1996. He served as chair of the department of pathobiology from 1995-2007.
