The Penn Museum is collaborating with The Franklin Institute during their special exhibition, One Day in Pompeii, running now through April 27, 2014. One Day in Pompeii features more than 150 artifacts on loan from the collection of the Naples National Archaeological Museum in Italy. Wall-sized frescos, marble and bronze sculptures, jewelry, ancient Roman coins and full body casts of the volcano’s victims are featured.
All PennCard holders enjoy the special discounted price of $6 per person (a savings of $12) after 5 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday through April 5, 2014. The exhibition is open until 9 p.m.; last admission entry is 7:30 p.m. each night. The ticket price does not include general museum admission.
For those preparing to visit The Franklin Institute or inspired by what they experience, the Penn Museum features a suite of Classical World galleries, Worlds Intertwined: Etruscans, Greeks and Romans, to delve deeper. The sun-drenched ancient Mediterranean world—the “classical world” of myth, legend and lore, of science, art, philosophy, fashion, politics and architectural glory—is explored. More than 1,400 ancient artifacts—including exquisite marble statuary, pottery, weapons and armour, coins, jewelry and engraved gems—are on display.
As always, the Penn Museum is free to PennCard holders.
