In the fall of 1997, the School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) created a new professional master's program in the emerging field of biotechnology. This program springs from University of Pennsylvania's long history as an innovator in education.

Using Penn's well-established tradition of interdisciplinary teaching and the unmatched breadth of its faculty, the Biotechnology Program draws its strengths from Penn's biology, biochemistry, chemical engineering, bioengineering and computer and information science departments. This cross-disciplinary approach gives students a uniquely broad exposure to the entire field of biotechnology.
