| On-site Banking
Starting this year, Delaware County Asset
Development Group will be offering free on-site banking at all four
VITA sites in the City of Chester. This means that people who do
not already have bank accounts can sign up to get an account on the
spot and thus have their refund electronically deposited. This
speeds up the refund process and also helps equip people with one of
the most important tools for financial self-sufficiency - a bank
account.
Actually, we're giving away credit union
memberships, not bank accounts. Similar to a bank account, a
credit union membership entitles you to many of the same privileges as
a bank, but without many of the costs. Furthmore, a credit union
is a not-for-profit organization and thus, more responsive to its
customers - called members - than a bank. The Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union (FMFCU)
will be providing credit union memberships at our Chester sites.
FMFCU is chartered for the entire City of Chester, meaning that anyone
who lives, works, worships, or volunteers in Chester can qualify for
membership.
