Subgrants - 1997-2001

Through the support of the Corporation for National Service, PHENND awarded small subgrants to colleges and universities for the past five years.  In Spring 2001, PHENND awarded it's final round of project-based subgrants until further notice.

The subgrantee program enabled PHENND to stimulate project development and coordination across the region.  Through an open RFP process, member institutions and their community partners were invited to submit proposals for $3000 grants in one of  two categories: Community Collaborative and Faculty Course Development.  The latter were specifically intended for the creation of new service-learning or community-based research course, while the former funded any kind of campus-community partnerships and did not have to be tied to the formal curriculum of the higher ed.  The third grant, to fund Academically Based Community Service Coordinators, were open to member institutions and provided the funds to hire a part-time graduate assistant to serve as a Service Learning Coordinator, thus helping to institutionalize central administrative support for these activities.
