Course Rationale
Coaching workshop gives the student the opportunity to practice coaching
techniques in a school and/or recreational setting. The student will
also have the opportunity to discuss coaching theories and readings with
guest coaches.
Course Objectives
The students who successfully complete this course will:
1.
Have a solid fundamental understanding of the nature of the
coaching profession.
2.
Increase their skills in writing coaching plans.
3.
Increase their skills in organizing and evaluating a coaching staff.
4.
Increase their ability to implement coaching plans in a school/recreational
setting.
5.
Increase their ability to analyze and correct skills.
6.
Develop a solid understanding of how to organize a competitive event.
7.
Increase their ability to recognize what motivates children.
Learning Activities
Service learning
Students will organize and implement a 6-8
week sport program for a school.
Students will organize a 2- to 4-hour coaching
seminar
Students will maintain a journal (see journal
outline)
Students will read a current coaching book
and submit a written report
Students will complete a 20-hour volunteer
coaching service
Lecture discussion
Viewing videos
Demonstration
Group interactive projects

Coaching practicums 50%

Grading Policies
Students are required to take all exams on the assigned date and at the
assigned time. Failure to fulfill this requirement will result in
a grade of "0" for the exam.
A penalty of one point will be deducted from the final grade for each calendar
day that the research paper is late.
