Focus on children
Penn's Field Center for Children's Policy, Practice & Research is dedicated to finding creative, interdisciplinary solutions to the most pressing issues in child welfare.
This one-of-a-kind center, run out of the School of Social Policy and Practice, draws on the expertise of Penn faculty in social policy, law, medicine and psychology to pinpoint weaknesses in state and local child welfare systems. Center contributors then work to find unique ways of solving those problems. Currently, the Center is developing an information management system that will make facts about individual children available, on a real-time basis, to both case workers in the home and to supervisors back at the office. The Center is also working to improve mental health services for at-risk children.
"What the Field Center is looking to do is... bring multiple perspectives, multiple identities, and multiple solutions," says Center director Debra Schilling Wolfe."
