Mastering Mandarin
Starting this year, Penn's Graduate Degree Program in Secondary Education will offer a program of study in Mandarin Chinese Language and Culture. By combining classroom study and fieldwork experiences, the 10-month, full-time program will prepare students to become reflective, collaborative and visionary teachers, as well as give them the knowledge needed to teach Mandarin Chinese in public secondary schools. This program is run by Penn's Graduate School of Education, in conjunction with the Center for East Asian Studies and the East Asian Languages and Civilization program.
Spoken throughout most of northern and southwestern China, Mandarin is the first language of approximately 885 million people, making it far and away the most commonly spoken language in the world.
