Penn in China

The relationship between Penn and China dates back to the late 19th century, when the first Chinese students came to study in West Philadelphia. The ties have remained strong ever since, and now, two new partnerships will strengthen the relationship even further.

Penn President Amy Gutmann has signed agreements with two of China's leading universities to expand and enhance their ongoing academic and research collaborations.

The agreement with longtime Penn partner Tsinghua University will create a joint research led by Penn's School of Engineering and Applied Science and enhance collaborations in business, law and other fields. Penn and Tsinghua had previously collaborated on the T.C. Chan Center, which conducts research, organizes symposia, and consults on green design projects worldwide.

Penn also signed an agreement with Shanghai Jiao Tong University. That plan calls for the schools to work together in the field of regenerative medicine, form a joint Center of Excellence in Medical Imaging and explore a jointly sponsored conference on International Financial Market Regulation.
