The scholars' workshop
A new resource center at Penn Library provides students with access to digital media technology, encourages collaborative work and offers academic support services—all in one central location.
The David B. Weigle Information Commons, a joint project of Penn Library and the School of Arts & Sciences, was created to provide a holistic learning center for Penn students. Spread over 6,600 square feet on the library's first floor, the Commons are comprised of three separate but complementary facilities: The College Technology Center includes study rooms—outfitted with plasma screens, laptops and web access—for use in group projects, debates and presentations; the Digital Media Lab provides access to video, audio, imaging and web publishing equipment; and the Academic Consulting Services office brings together programs from across the University, creating a one-stop shop for students seeking support.
