Requirements for using InfoView and Business Objects

In order to access the InfoView web page, you must have:

  • A Business Objects ID and password (refer here for licensing information). Note that you must be a licensed Business Objects user -- simply having an Oracle ID and password to access the Data Warehouse will not authorize you to access InfoView
  • Internet Explorer 5.x or 6.0, or Netscape 4.7 on a Windows PC (sorry, Netscape 6 and later are not supported
  • Your browser enabled to accept cookies
When you're ready to use InfoView to download or view Business Objects reports, you must have:
  • PowerUser rights (for Windows NT/2000 or Windows XP); or Windows 98
  • de-installed Business Objects 5.0 (after having backed up your queries and any user-defined objects, of course)

Accessing InfoView and Installing Business Objects 5.1.4

The InfoView web page allows you to view the list of corporate documents in the Business Objects repository, refresh and download those documents via the web, and download and install Business Objects client software for editing and creating your own queries.

Logging in to InfoView:

  1. Point your browser to https://zinc.isc-seo.upenn.edu/wi
  2. Click the blue "Log In" button. Enter your Business Objects ID and password in the User Name and Password fields that appear. Click OK to continue to the InfoView Welcome page. You should not click the "Remember my password" box, as this would allow anyone using your browser to access the Data Warehouse under your ID.
Install and use the Business Objects client software:
  1. Click Options on the InfoView navigation bar to go to the Personal Options page.
  2. In the Create and Edit Documents section of that page, select the BusinessObjects option, then click the Apply All Changes button.
  3. To begin installation, click the Create Documents link in the navigation bar.
  4. At the Security Warning window ("Do you want to install and run Business Objects Web Installer...), click Yes to initiate the installation. (Netscape users may see a Java Applet requesting additional privileges - choose to Grant these privileges to continue.)
  5. Click Next at the "Welcome to the Business Objects 5i Installation Wizard" to continue with the set up.

  6. Choose an installation folder. The default is C:\Program Files\Business Objects. (Note - if you de-installed version 5.0.2 of Business Objects from a directory of the same name, the new installation should preserve your UserDocs and other personal settings. Users migrating from an earlier version will need to move their files manually.) Click Next to continue.

  7. At the System Files Check window, click Next to continue. After the system files check, the actual installation will begin automatically.

  8. At the Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications Setup you do not need to download and install VBA. Leave the box unchecked and click Next.

  9. Click Finish to exit the installation wizard and launch Business Objects
  10. When installation is complete, the Query Panel opens in a separate window. (Note: if the registration window appears, click "Don't Register.")

  11. To create a document, proceed exactly as you would using the full-client version of the product. From now on, you can launch Business Objects either through the Create Documents link in InfoView (or Edit when viewing a Corporate Document), or using the Start menu command created on your PC by the installer.
