Training Information
Classes in the query tool
Hands-on Business Objects training is offered on campus approximately
once a month by Online Consulting. The classes in the new version, once
they
are available,
will be in the schedule which can be viewed from the website of the Technology
Training Services. The classes are taught by outside consultants,
who have extensive experience teaching new users how to use the query
tool. If you attend this
class, you will be learning how to use a desktop tool, NOT how to use
University of Pennsylvania data. The instructor does not use University
of Pennsylvania data in this class. Please note that
the
training
alone does not give you access to the Data Warehouse: you need to install
the software, you may need training in the particular source data you'll
be using, and you need to obtain permission from the data steward to
use
the data (see "What
you need" to learn more about the steps to
obtain access to the data in the warehouse.)
Who needs to take a Business Objects XI r2 class
Formal Business Objects training is not
a prerequisite to getting access to the Data Warehouse. If you are
someone who generally refreshes existing
queries -- either from the Corporate Documents or using queries sent
to you by colleagues -- without making any changes to the actual query
or resulting reports, then this training may not be necessary for you.
However, if you are new, and plan to write your own queries, you are
strongly encouraged to attend the oncampus training if at all possible.
People who already know how to create queries using the old version
-- Business Objects version 5 -- do not have to re-take the intro class
in version XIr2. Data Administration will be holding "What's New in
XIr2" seminars for current users.
Seminars on Penn Data
Anyone who plans to query the Data Warehouse -- whether they use Business
Objects or some other query tool -- should also attend
one of the "Penn
Data seminars" presented
by Data Administration. In some cases, data training is a prerequisite
for getting
access to the data in certain data collections. Details about upcoming
Penn Data seminars is distributed to all on-campus Business Objects classes.
For additional information about these seminars, please write to da-staff@isc.upenn.edu.
XIr2 seminars
Data Administration will also be holding "What's New in XIr2" seminars
to acquaint our current users with the changes they can expect to see
in
the new
version.
Details
about these seminars will be sent to the various warehouse listserv lists.
Training for local support providers
Data Administration will be contacting LSPs with information and assistance
regarding the new installation procedures, and XIr2 frequently
asked questions.
