Requirements for using InfoView

In order to access the InfoView web page, you must have:

  • A Business Objects ID and password (refer here for licensing information). Note that you must be a licensed Business Objects user -- simply having an Oracle ID and password to access the Data Warehouse will not authorize you to access InfoView
  • Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher; Firefox 1.0.4 or higher on a Windows PC.
  • Your browser enabled to accept cookies.
If you'd like to use InfoView to edit Business Objects Desktop Intelligence reports (click here for installation instructions), you must have:
  • PowerUser rights (for Windows XP or Windows Vista)

Logging in to InfoView

  1. Point your browser to

    https://huma.isc-seo.upenn.edu/businessobjects/enterprise115/desktoplaunch/InfoView/

  2. Enter your Business Objects User Nameand Password (leave the Authentication option set to "Enterprise"). (You can make sure your Data Warehouse and Business Objects account passwords are synchronized by using the password change application.

Once you've successfully logged in to InfoView, the home page will appear. You can choose to browse documents by viewing them by Category or Folder. The Category view appears by default - all the shared documents are available under Corporate Categories. Although you'll see all the categories available, you'll only see documents whose data you're authorized to refresh.

The InfoView toolbar also provides quick links to launch Desktop Intelligence, send documents to other users, search for reports, and to log off:

Finding and Refreshing Documents

Click on a category or folder name to view the documents available to you. The list of documents appears in the right-hand pane of the InfoView window, and displays the documents by name, with description (if available) and links for the kinds of actions you can perform on the document.

  • Simply clicking the document name will open it.
  • Keep in mind that documents in the repository are saved without any data, so that you can click the Refresh Data link at the upper right corner of the screen to refresh the report according to your security and any parameters.
  • If the report includes prompts, you will be presenting with a screen asking you to fill in those prompts, and then click the Run Query button to execute the report.

The Inbox folder contains the documents that other users have sent you, and Favorites lists the documents you’ve saved for your own personal use. Please be sure to delete documents from these lists when you no longer need them.

If you’re having trouble finding a document on a page, you can use the Search feature in the InfoView toolbar to search for that document. To do a quick search:

  1. Click the drop-down arrow in the Search area to choose "Search title."
  2. Enter part or all of the document name in the entry box.
  3. Press Enter. The list of documents corresponding to your search criterion is displayed.

Saving Options

InfoView allows you to save documents in Excel, Adobe Acrobat PDF or CSV formats. Once you've refreshed a report, click on the Document button to select the format you'd like:

If you're saving a report with multiple tabs as Excel, each tab will be saved as a separate worksheet within one workbook.

Sending Documents to Other Users

You can use InfoView to send Desktop Intelligence reports to other users, which they can they view either from within InfoView or Deski.

  1. In InfoView, navigate to the folder containing the report you'd like to share. (If you created it in Deski and exported it to the repository, it will likely be saved in your Favorites folder). In the right-hand pane, click the checkbox next to report name.

  2. Click on the Send icon on the InfoView toolbar, and select "To Business Objects Inbox".

  3. In the Send window, uncheck "Use the Job Server's defaults." Select the Business Objects username(s) for your recipient(s) and click to add to the Selected Recipients area.

  4. Be sure to send the report as a Copy, not a Shortcut (this will give your recipient his/her own copy of the report).

Logging Out of InfoView

When you are done using InfoView, please log out of the product instead of just closing your browser. To log out of InfoView, click the small lock icon at the top right corner of the window.
