Tracks current information on the
instructors that are qualified to teach course versions. Includes
information on the time limitation (if any) for the qualification, and any
remarks that may have been entered concerning the instructor and the course
version. There is one record per combination of course version and qualified

A course is a formal educational unit that deals with a particular subject.
A course provides training to members of the Penn Community in support of their
academic activities and job responsibilities at the University and/or at the
University of Pennsylvania Health System. A course may have more than one version.
For example, if the course covers Software Package X, version 1 of the course
might cover Software Package X release 2.0, and version 2 of the course might
cover Software Package X release 3.5.

a course version/instructor combination. Historical

- There is one record per combination of course version and qualified instructor;
logically speaking, the record may be uniquely identified by the combination
of CO_REC_ID and USER_REC_ID. However, in the physical implementation of
the database, QUAL_REC_ID is used to uniquely identify an LMS_STAFF_QUAL
- The instructor might be qualified to teach a course version for a limited
period of time. In that case, QUAL_DATE is the date when that period begins,
and QUAL_EXPIRE is the date when that period ends. Some instructors have
an open-ended period, in which case QUAL_EXPIRE is null. However, in most
cases, there is no limitation on when the instructor is qualified to teach
the course version (both QUAL_DATE and QUAL_EXPIRE are null).
- The values of QUAL_DATE and QUAL_EXPIRE sometimes include not only
the date, but also the time, although Business Objects displays only
the date by
in reports. Business Objects users that set a condition on either
of these data elements, typing a date value in the condition, will find
that Business Objects supplies
AM as the time. This does not matter if the value does not
include the time, but if it does, that time is almost never 12:00:00
conditions using an = (Equal to) operator will often not work as expected,
use BETWEEN instead. For example, rather than setting the condition QUAL_DATE
Equal to 3/1/2005, set the condition QUAL_DATE Between 3/1/2005 and 3/2/2005.
- LMS_STAFF_QUAL tracks information on the instructors that are qualified
to teach the course versions. For information on the instructors assigned
to teach the course iterations, see the LMS_COURSE_ITER_INSTRUCTOR table.
- In an LMS_STAFF_QUAL record, the USER_REC_ID identifies the instructor
who is qualified to teach the course version.
- Information on the instructor is available in the LMS_PERSON table
where LMS_COURSE_ITER_INSTRUCTOR.USER_REC_ID = LMS_PERSON.USER_REC_ID.
(Business Objects users will see that these
tables are joined for them in the Learning Management and Profiler Universe.)
Another option is to access information on the instructor in the GEN21_USER
(a subset of the LMS_PERSON data elements), where LMS_COURSE_ITER_INSTRUCTOR.USER_REC_ID
- Note that every instructor has a record in the LMS_PERSON and GEN21_USER
tables, but those tables also store records on people who are not instructors.
- In an LMS_STAFF_QUAL record, the CO_REC_ID identifies the course version
that the instructor is qualified to teach.
- Information on the course version is available in the COURSE_OBJECT
table where LMS_STAFF_QUAL.CO_REC_ID = COURSE_OBJECT.CO_REC_ID. (Business
Objects users will see that these tables are joined for them in the
Learning Management and Profiler Universe.)

there are instructor-led course versions that do not have any corresponding
records in the LMS_STAFF_QUAL table. Some such course versions
are inactive, but many are active.
- Although most of the records in the LMS_STAFF_QUAL table
apply to instructor-led course versions, there are many that apply
to active Web-based course versions.
Knowledge Link, the learning management system used by the University and
by the University of Pennsylvania Health System (UPHS) since March, 2005.
Knowledge Link enables authorized administrators to schedule training
courses, assign resources to courses, assign groups of trainees to courses,
and to create online courses. It enables trainees to find out what courses
have been assigned to them, to register for those courses (whether those courses
are on-line or instructor-led), to take on-line courses, and to provide feedback
via course evaluations. Knowledge Link was first used to track information
on training required by regulation, but it now tracks information on a variety
