Data Warehouse Training

University data is complex. Your success in executing queries and interpreting results depends on your having a working knowledge of University data, a basic understanding of how the University Data Warehouse works, and a familiarity with using Business Objects or another query tool to retrieve Warehouse data. Training will give you the framework you need to understand and use the University Data Warehouse.

University data and Business Objects training.

In addition to Business Objects training, recommended if you write or edit queries, you definitely need to familiarize yourself in the kind of data you plan to use. In some cases, data training is a prerequisite: you will be given access to the Data Warehouse only after you have attended the training that is appropriate for the data you are requesting. Data training topics include the following. Additional information on training is also available for each data collection:

  • University terminology and concepts
  • How the Warehouse gets refreshed
  • Data collections available in the Warehouse
  • Summary data available for each data collection
  • How to create efficient queries
  • Support services available after training
Currently, online training for the General Ledger and Salary Management data collections are available. In addition, there is a BlackBoard course on the use of Student Data - contact Susan Collins, 573-6038, for additional information.
