Why is a banner being appended to messages that I send?
Messages sent to, from, or within Pobox are scanned for viruses by an
external provider, MessageLabs. Normally the scanning process will be transparent. In some cases, MessageLabs will append a
banner to the bottom of messages alerting recipients that the
message has been scanned.
Specifically, if you have configured your e-mail client with a return
address that is not hosted by our server, and all of the recipient
addresses are also not hosted on our server, then the MessageLabs banner
will appear on the bottom of your message.
For example,
Your email address as known by your mail client: joeuser@isc.upenn.edu
The list of people who will receive your message:
druser@uphs.upenn.edu
anotheruser@isc.upenn.edu
We are working with MessageLabs to eliminate these banners. In the interim,
there are some ways to prevent
this banner from appearing on your mail messages:
- Configure your mail client so that the mail is coming from your email
address that is supported on our server, e.g.,
From: user@pobox.upenn.edu
- Copy yourself on your messages, making sure to use your email
address that is supported on our server, e.g.,
Cc: user@pobox.upenn.edu
If you have questions about the valid email addresses that you can use, please contact your local support provider.
