Known Migration Issues for the Zimbra Service
While we expect the transition from Pobox Classic to Zimbra to be mostly transparent to users of the service, our testing has uncovered a few minor differences
between the two services that may be support issues.
Authenticated SMTP only
On the Classic Pobox system, a user could send mail to another pobox.upenn.edu address without using authenticated SMTP. On Zimbra we only allow authenticated SMTP. Most users will not be affected by this change but devices like printers which are capable of sending email will be affected. Users will need to review the mailing process for devices and configure these processes to authenticate to SMTP. If a device is not capable of authenticating, the user must set up a SMTP-relay server that can handle the sending of the mail. For more information, please see the SMTP-Relay site.
Change to "Sent" folder
Users may have followed earlier instructions for the Pobox service to create a "Mail" directory. If so, the mail client may have saved copies of messages that the user sent in a folder called "Mail/sent". Once the user starts using the new Zimbra service, a copy of newly sent messages will be stored in the parent level directory in a folder called "sent". We have moved user folders to the new system and placed them in the same location so if the user had a "Mail/sent" folder, older sent messages will be in that folder while new sent message will be in "sent". Customers who experience this behavior may consolidate their sent mail in the Zimbra"sent" folder to facilitate searching. However, the user may also leave the older sent messages in the Mail/sent folder and this will in no way affect the performance of Zimbra.

Spam Filtering
While we will continue to use Message Labs as our message hygiene provider, the user will see the following changes to spam filtering:
- No ability to opt out
| Pobox Classic: |
Customers could opt to just tag messages and not move them to a spam folder. |
| Zimbra: |
All messages that have been identified as spam will be moved to the spam folder. |
- "Junk" - the new name for the spam folder
| Pobox Classic: |
The spam folder was called Mail/caught-spam. |
| Zimbra: |
The spam folder is called Junk |
- Spam retention
| Pobox Classic: |
Customers could set the retention period for keeping mail in the spam folder after which it was automatically deleted from the folder. |
| Zimbra: |
The retention period is 14 days for all users. |
- Allow/Disallow Lists
| Pobox Classic: |
Customers could create allow/disallow lists that would override the spam filtering. |
| Zimbra: |
This kind of filtering is done at the account level
and happens after the spam filtering process. Therefore email addresses that had been white listed on Pobox Classic may be identified as spam on Zimbra.

We are investigating the ability to offer account level spam filtering preferences as a future enhancement to Zimbra.
Outlook Connector Installation
After installing the Zimbra Connector for Outlook (ZCO), users with pre-existing Outlook profiles will notice that they are using a Zimbra specific profile. During the installation The ZCO creates a completely separate new mail profile in order to not conflict with any existing profiles/accounts. To view pre-existing profiles, navigate to:
Start -> ControlPanel -> Mail -> Show Profiles
To switch between profiles, view existing profiles using the instructions above, then select the radio button for "Prompt for a profile to be used." Subsequently, the user will be prompted to pick a profile when the user logs into Outlook.
Duplicate messages for POP users
Users configured to use POP for message delivery may receive duplicate
messages after the migration completes if the users are configured to "Keep mail on the server". To avoid this, users should opt to not leave mail on the server before shutting down the client on Friday afternoon.
