HTML2000 - Objectives

Welcome to the HTML/Web Authoring Software Evaluation Home Page-
Spring 2000

    Meeting Notes

    Date/Time Location
3/16/2000 10:30am-12:00am Sansom Place West, Bits and Pieces Room, 3rd Floor

    Hi everyone.

Thanks to the following people for attending the last meeting of HTML2000. Sorry I'm so late with the minutes.

    Joe Harris - ISC
    Celeste Stewart - ISC
    Darlene Jones - VPUL
Vasu Renganathan - Foreign Language Resource Center
    Sarah Nachmias - SAS
Jennifer Yuan - School of Medicine
    Laura Victor - ISC
    Scott Roberts - History
Janet Smith - International Literacy Center
    Peggy Yetter - ISC

Here are some general notes from the meeting.

    - We spent a fair amount of time this meeting coming up with an answer to Mark Aseltine's question :Should Penn set up a resource page for web developers modeled after the site set up at Princeton. To that end, Celeste put together a list of available Penn resources on the web. This list demonstrated that we already have a quite comprehensive set of resources available to Penn Web Developers - mostly due to the hard work of Peggy Yetter, another team member.

I believe we came up with a solid solution, appropriate to the atmosphere at and structure of Penn. A draft of our decision will be typed and distributed to our team members this afternoon or tonight. Once the team has a chance to comment, any modifications are made, we'll post our recommendation on the site and the issue will be closed.

    - Joe Harris presented his matrix of skills and needs which define, for our testing and evaluation purposes, "Basic" and "Advanced" web developers. You can see the matrix here.

    - Vasu discussed further his criteria for examining ways to measure foreign language font functionality in the various packages. The primary criteria for the measure of this functionality looks to be user friendliness and ease of use.

    - Scott Roberts looked into the feasibility of including Microsoft's Personal Home Page product as part of our effort. That product seems to have dead-ended and we ill not be evaluating it.

    - Jennifer Yuan presented her initial concept on how we may best organize and present our findings once they are complete. The chart she is developing will use an icon based rating system. She will have further prototypes for us to review in coming weeks. Meanwhile, she put together a chart outlining the software we plan on evaluating. You can see that chart here.

    - Finally, we brainstormed together a preliminary list of criteria for measuring the software packages on our list. You can see that initial list here

One other disappointing note: Elizabeth Scheyder has excused herself from the group. Our meeting times conflict with other previous commitments on her schedule.

Thanks again for coming last week. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone again this Thursday!
