HTML2000 - Objectives

Welcome to the HTML/Web Authoring Software Evaluation Home Page-
Spring 2000

    Meeting Notes

    Date/Time Location
3/23/2000 10:30am-12:00am Sansom Place West, Bits and Pieces Room, 3rd Floor

    Hi everyone.

Thanks to the following people for attending the last meeting of HTML2000.

    Joe Harris - ISC
    Celeste Stewart - ISC
Vasu Renganathan - Foreign Language Resource Center
    Sarah Nachmias - SAS
Jennifer Yuan - School of Medicine
    Scott Roberts - History
    Peggy Yetter - ISC
    Brett Bonfield - Development

Here are some general notes from the meeting.

    - Vasu presented a web form and database solution for gathering testing criteria and developing a test script. The test script is dynamically created based on the contents of the testing criteria database. The web form that is created accepts input and populates another database with the test results. Please check the database out on http://larrc.sas.upenn.edu/html2000/

    - We took a closer look at our initial list of testing criteria and broke it down into three sub-categories. The first is a "required feature" category. You can see the breakdown here. We will only consider software which meets these criteria. The second is a set of general "nice to have but not necessary" features. Both the first and second categories will be examined subjectively. The final set is simply informational: Price, availability of site licensing, etc. This data will be compiled and provided without judgement.

    - Joe agreed to look into the availability of demo versions of the software packages we're considering. Celeste agreed to check into the University's policy on shareware and freeware, in case we decide to evaluate a package in that category.

    - We established agendas and goals for the next two meetings:

    3/30/00

Joe will present his findings on the availibility of demo versons of the software we are examining.
Go over any comments from the WebSIG.
Finalize the items in the must have, nice to have and informational criteria categories
Make final decisions on the list of applications to evaluate.
    Go over Vasu's web form
Start to talk about an initial test script and how to measure each criterion.
    Have Pizza for lunch.

4/6/00 Finish any leftover agenda items from previous week
Look at each criterion and discuss how to measure and how to report each one.

Thanks again for coming last week. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone again this Thursday!
