Web Browser Evaluation - Spring 2001
Both Netscape and Microsoft have released new web browsers (Netscape 6.0x and Internet Explorer 5.5) that cause problems with University systems. With a growing number of services being delivered via the web some structured testing of Internet Explorer and Netscape against critical systems is necessary. IT Roundtable has proposed adding identification of a good web browser test site or sites as part of the charge to this team.
The team is asked to document issues related to use of specific browser/Java versions to access campus systems and services, and to develop general recommendations regarding the configuration and use of Communicator and Internet Explorer. In addition, the team is asked to confirm continued support for the recommended helper applications (Acrobat Reader, QuickTime, RealPlayer, Shockwave) and to test both browsers with the latest versions of the helper applications installed.
