AntiSpam Product Reviews

The team was not charged with selecting a specific product to be used or officially supported at Penn and thus did not fully test the products discussed or do an exhaustive review of products available. Team members conducted reviews of a number of anti-spam products, primarily to act as a guide to the sorts of issues that will have to be addressed by anyone considering implementation of such a solution.

ActiveState PureMessage (commercial product)

Brightmail Anti-Spam 4.0 Enterprise Edition (commercial product)

Symantec Antivirus for Exchange 3.1 (commercial product but already licensed at Penn)

Symantec Antivirus for SMTP Gateways 3.1 (commercial product but already licensed at Penn)

 

Host-Based products

spamassassin (open source product )

BogoFilter (open source product)

Both of above can be used in a variety of configurations, including server based implementatons, but user controlled host-based approach is perhaps most common.
