April 6, 2004 Agenda/Meeting Minutes

In Attendance: Steve Jones, Rob Marcolina, Al Matthews, Randall Sindlinger, Mark Sirota, Steve Strawser, Jonathan Toughill, Peggy Yetter, Vern Yoneyama

Agenda:

-- Test Script finished last week -> comments?
http://www.upenn.edu/computing/eval/2004/csemail/testscript04.html

-- Products/OS's were selected by those in attendance -> changes/additions?
http://www.upenn.edu/computing/eval/2004/csemail/productlist.pdf

-- Test accounts on porpoise.net.isc have been created (see Mark Sirota's email sent to the team on March 31st at 5:13pm)
- no password - will clarify with Peggy/Mark S about creating one
- server works with POP, IMAP, SMTP and Kerberos and/or SSL/TLS
- don't need to use this account (porpoise), but would help determine traffic generated by each email client that was tested
- keep track of when you test a client on that server so Mark S can evaluate server load
- suggestion to forward all mail to that account so you can work with real data (if need to know how to do this, check with Mark/Peggy)
- use standard directory.upenn.edu for LDAP setup - auth LDAP not ready yet (sample directions, these for Eudora, below)
- Type directory.upenn.edu in the "Host Name:" field.
- Retain 389 as the default in the "Port:" field.
- Select the Search Options tab.
- Type ou=People, o=upenn.edu in the "Search Base:" field, making sure that the "P" in People is capitalized.
- Do not change the entries in the "Word-wise Search Filter:" field.

-- Testing
- how far along are we?
- can we get a webified form that sends data to a db?
- when should we reserve the Standards Lab for testing (if needed)? -> currently Tues 4/13 2-3pm; Thurs 4/15 1-2pm; Tues 4/20 2-3pm; Thurs 4/22 1-2pm

Minutes:

-- suggestion to move Uninstallation question to the end of the test script and give it its own category.

-- Product/OS sign-up list was reorganized a little bit (this will be reflected on the team's site shortly)

-- Peggy gave details about the default password she set for the porpoise.net.isc accounts (contact Steve or Rob for this information)

-- Peggy is going to contact Ben Bressman to determine who is going to create the web form that takes input and sends it to a database

-- Instructions were given on how to forward mail to both your current account and your the porpoise test account (see below)
- go to a unix prompt on your usual mail server and create a .forward file (or turn on forwarding and edit the forward file)
- in that file or when prompted, enter the following -> "[username on current mail server], [same username@porpoise.net.isc.upenn.edu]" - no quotes or brackets - e.g. strawser, strawser@porpoise.net.isc.upenn.edu

-- SUG/Roundtable - Steve and Rob inquired of the team their thoughts about presenting to SUG and IT Roundtable this coming Monday (April 12)
- mention that test script contains spam filtering
- Outlook is being evaluated
- briefly mention show-stopper criteria
- Rob and Steve will meet to determine exact details
- in passing John Mulhern mentioned it'd be a good idea to what products we think have an inside track for support and recommendation - Rob and Steve will discuss this further
