Tom McAleer, Mark Litwack and Jim Johnson.

MEETING SUMMARY
--------------
Group emphasized the need to continue collecting usernames from the
schools, and to revisit how previously reported statistics have been
affected by the September influx of students and their new usernames.

Norm discussed SEAS reasoning on allowing users to choose, rather than
assign usernames.

        - Students preferred to choose, rather than be assigned usernames.
        - SEAS had easy access to HESIOD, an interactive tool that
allowed users to pick their own unique username from a series of
computer generated choices comprised of variations on their
        legal name.
        - Faculty preferred close correlation between username and
legal name for electronic correspondence, due to lack of an easily
        accessible and robust directory service.
        - It was easier to enforce the "no changes to username" rule
when the user selected it, rather than having been assigned it.

Norm indicated that SEAS would not be adverse to moving to an assignment
method if advantages could be shown.

Introduced Tom McAleer from HUP to the team. Quickly briefed him on team
activities. Tom reported that HUP will be getting their own domain name,
uphs.edu.

Lila reported that Hewlett-Packard acknowledged her request for info
regarding their direction on DCE. A response is forthcoming.
